PROGRESS

PROGRESS is a procedure that allows you to make full use of both your reason and your emotions to produce wiser prudential and ethical decisions that both your head and your heart can agree on.

What people have said about the Progress procedure

"I did indeed share your program with student leaders .... The faculty and staff advisors present LOVED the program and I gave them a copy of the handouts and your website. While I wasn't at all surprised, students had a difficult time initially identifying problems. They were initially looking more to solve the effects of the problem. When I gave them your exercise the light bulbs started going off immediately. Your outline and introduction did a wonderful job laying out the example for them. As you mentioned, we receive no formal training in decision making so our students were slow to incorporate the process. But, as they started to apply their own situations to the model, it became clearer to them. Many of our staff members as well were excited by your work. They were going to try to incorporate your ideas into ongoing student training. If I can help you promote this procedure, please let me know! I think it is tremendously valuable and would be a wonderful feature for middle school, high school and college student leaders!"

I really think it was brilliant and don't have any criticism! It came at exactly the right time in my life and was more helpful than I thought it could ever be. I am SO grateful! I would recommend it to anyone!

Brilliant, Fantastic, Excellent, Wow!

"A very useful and thorough process that covers the ‘emotional’ side of the decision which seems to be overlooked or not explicitly covered in other decision making processes that I have looked at."

"Having to talk through the decision, the emotions involved, the values and goals and then coming up with options was very useful.  I have found this very hard to do on my own. "

"It is an extremely valuable tool for people who have to make some big decisions."

"It has definitely given me more confidence in making decisions - something I have never been provided before."

"My overall assessment of Progress – certainly very helpful for me – could possibly short cut hours and hours of counselling !"

"I didn’t come to the Progress interview with high expectations because I thought the issues (around my current work situation and what I should do about it) were too convoluted and complicated for me to be able to come to a decision and expected that I would end up rather in the hands of fate and not make a clear, decision but I ended up making a decision which was satisfactory both to my need to sort things out in my present job and my desire to move on to new challenges where I could put my past experience to good use rather than undersell myself in a bid to escape from an uncomfortable situation."

"Progress enabled me to decide which of the factors which had been going through my head over the past months and confusing me were really relevant to my decision"

"In a sense I came away feeling able to take charge of my destiny and in a sense capitalise on events of the past rather than being a victim of them"

"It was very refreshing to come face to face with own values: it felt like I got to know myself a little bit better."

"It was worth every ounce of the effort as I was lost and stuck in a role which I didn’t like."

"I feel my decision-making is more founded now. I feel there is less chance of my decision being the result of an unbalanced view. In other words, as this decision making project took into account the whole spectrum on which a decision should be based, it allowed me to look at my emotions as well as my values, weight them and then match them against my options. (I think this approach/technique is brilliant!) And these strong foundations have now inspired me with more confidence, have reduced my wavering and have strengthened my views and convictions."

"Excellent. Practical, logical and helpful"
