John Generates Candidate Values

prev TOC next

John lists these as possible values. Notice that John has reassessed some of the values he initially thought of and has become aware of other possible objectives (changes in bold):

VALUES

Possible Value

Acceptability (Yes/No/?) Relevance (Yes/No/?) Importance (1-5) Weightiness (1-5)
Stopping my mother's deteriorating psychological faculties
Stopping my mother's depression if left in hospital

changed to: Protecting my mother's emotional health in general (not just depression from being in hospital), including such things as the fear and disorientation that might result from staying at home

Satisfying my mother's wish to remain out of hospital

changed to: My mother getting what she wants (in general, not just in avoiding hospital)

Satisfying my desire to broach the issue of permanent chronic care at home
Protecting my mother's physical welfare.
My life not being severely and negatively affected (As my best friend would say I am an important party to this problem too)
My life not being mildly and negatively affected
My feeling that I've done all I reasonably can.
